Why invest?
We believe that Investing is about making your surplus cash work hard for you, allowing it to grow and become a source of income and/or capital for the future. This can be as a lumpsum or on a regular basis or possibly both.
To successfully invest we need to set out your goal, by doing this we can ensure we use the most efficient investment route to achieve this.
People have lots of reasons too invest but generally invest in order to generate a good return over a reasonable time frame that might not be achievable through other savings routes such as deposit savings with banks or building societies.
Developing a portfolio that suits you
Whether you are new to investments or want to re-evaluate your existing portfolio, we work with you to develop a personal investment portfolio that reflects your financial goals.
We will discuss your attitude to risk and complete an independent risk profile using a system, which asks you to respond to 12 statements and determines how much risk you are willing to, need to and are able to take. We will take time to find out what is important to you and establish how your goals and aspirations for your future can be fulfilled. You will then have a personal financial plan tailored to meet your future needs.
To build your solution we will look at and analyse many things and use a number of principles.
Our Investment Good Practices and Principles:
Time in your investments rather than timing when to invest.
It is almost impossible to perfectly time the perfect entry point into a market and as essential and exit point, so with that fact we believe always being invested allows your investments the ability to grow for the long term.
With funds being able to show the benefits of good management over the longer term rather than trying to anticipate short term market movements.
Beware the media
Bad news sells, and it is only in hindsight that we really know what is bad news and what is just news. So we remain committed to the long term view that markets change and we should review portfolios across a diverse range of assets to achieve good longer term growth and leave scaremongering to the media.
The right approach for you
Its is imperative that you are comfortable with the investment approach you adopt and the level of volatility and risk this involves but even more so that you are in a financial position that allows you to take this approach.
We will work with you, to ensure you have funds for day to day living and a reserve before we look at any long term planning as this gives your investment strategy the foundations they need to allow them to flourish and grow.
Diversification and Balance with your investments
Different investments behave differently in different market events and no single asset is the best all the time so it stands to reason that spreading where you invest should reduce your level of risk with the aim of achieving a more consistent return.
Cost and value
Cost and value are major factors in financial advice and we are committed to them.
We are constantly reviewing investments looking to drive down our clients costs. However, value is the ultimate goal as getting good value is more likely to result in a good outcome than having low costs alone.
We look at all investment options and asses the cost versus the potential gain and use a wide range of investment solutions to increase potential growth, whilst keeping cost as low as possible. This is reviewed on a regular basis to secure a good outcome for our clients goals.
Be consistent and review regularly
Looking after a successful portfolio is akin to looking after a garden regular attention can give wonderful results where as a sustained period of in activity can mean your goal is not achieved either financially or horticulturally.
We are committed to this and will sit down with you at least once per year to assess your finances and assess the performance of your investments to ensure they remain on track to achieve your goals.
Risk
As with all investing, your capital is at risk. The value of your portfolio will go down as well as up and you may get back less than you invest. The more risk you are prepared to take the more the value will change, up and down. It is important to invest in a risk profile you are comfortable with and only take risks that you can afford to take, ensuring you have monies available to help with unexpected costs.
